Bio

Cris Kobryn is the CEO and Founder of PivotPoint Technology Corporation, a company that specializes in Model-Driven Engineering Solutions™ for tough business and technical problems. Cris is a technology leader, system architect and entrepreneur who excels in advanced software and systems development. He has successfully applied innovative technologies to solve tough business and technical problems at Fortune 500, midsize and startup companies. Cris is passionate about advanced technology and is an internationally recognized expert in visual modeling languages and Model-Driven Development (MDD) technologies He has global experience leading high-performance software development teams, and has architected custom applications and commercial products.

Cris is the former Chief Technologist for Telelogic, where he was responsible for industry standards leadership, strategic planning and technology evangelism. Prior to working at Telelogic, Cris was a Chief Technologist for the E.solutions unit of EDS, a $2+ billion, 20,000 person global business unit. Before working at EDS, Cris was a Chief Architect at MCI Systemhouse, where he received the MCI Masters award for “Outstanding Performance” and the MCI Systemhouse award for “Thought Leadership.” In addition, Cris has also held senior technical positions at InLine Software, Inference, Harlequin, SAIC and VERAC.

Cris has consulted for Fortune 500 clients in a wide range of industries that include aerospace, telecom, financial services, commodity trading, computer integrated manufacturing, healthcare and pharmaceuticals. In addition, he has consulted for various government agencies in domains that include C4ISR, seismic monitoring, explosive ordnance disposal, radar event detection, data fusion and aircraft loading.

Cris is an internationally recognized expert in visual modeling languages and model-driven development technologies. He chaired large international teams of vendors and users to specify the Unified Modeling Language (UML) 1.1 and 2.0 standards for software engineering, and the Systems Modeling Language (SysML) for systems engineering. In recognition of Cris's contributions to UML and the Analysis & Design Task Force, the Object Managment Group (OMG) presented him with its Distinguished Service Award in 2000. In recognition of Cris's contributions to SysML, the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) presented him with its Outstanding Service Award in 2006.

Before Cris became a software professional he served as a commissioned officer in both the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Army, and was infantry, armor, airborne and Special Forces qualified.

Cris received a BA degree from Colgate University and a BSCS degree from San Diego State University. His multi-disciplinary graduate studies at SDSU and UCLA explored the synergies among linguistics, computer science and artificial intelligence.

Cris is a frequent presenter and panelist at industry conferences and workshops that are concerned with software architecture, UML, and SysML. He is a former computer science instructor at the University of California, San Diego Extension and is a member of the ACM, IEEE, INCOSE and AAAI.
